Michael "Mickey" Kies,
72, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a long illness. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Kristy and Kelly Kies, both of Cedar Rapids; a son, Shane (Tammy) Kies of Atkins; five grandchildren, Reed, Miranda, Keegan, Kail and Kade; five brothers, Sonny (Gloria) Kies of Brandon, Rocky Kies of Macon, Ga., Raymond (Mary) Kies of Olin, Lee Kies of Shellsburg and Don Kies of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Edna "Sis" (Ted) Dedrick of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Mike was born Jan. 13, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Willard and Patricia Reilly Kies. He married Susan Pinch on June 8, 1967, in Cedar Rapids. He retired from Quaker Oats in 2000 after 30 years. He was an Army veteran. Mike enjoyed gardening, the Denver Broncos, playing poker and his time at the casinos.
Memorials may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
