MICHAEL DARION LEWIS

Michael Darion Lewis, son of Barbara Young Lewis and the late Samuel Lewis, was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Washington, D.C. He was called home to be with his heavenly father on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 10:35 p.m.
He graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., and continued his education to receive an Associate of Science degree
in engineering from Thomas Nelson Community College
in Hampton, Va., and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served six years. He started his family while stationed in Hampton.
Michael Lewis moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1997, accepting a position with NCS as a database administrator. Other employment included owner/vice president of KarCity Bicycles & Big Wheels; maintenance mechanic with U.S. Post Office, and finally American Airlines/Envoy as a station agent before becoming ill.
Michael was a faithful member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of Mount Zion Male Chorus. He also attended the Sunday school class for couples and senior/junior laymen.
He leaves to carry on his legacy his wife, Elsie Lewis; his only child, Bryon Lamont Lewis; mother, Barbara Young Lewis; two grandchildren, Kaleek Jamar Arie and Kayden James; several aunts and uncles; other family members, including the Lewis, Everett, Young, Desbordes, Braxton, Lambert, Taylor, McFadden, Wheeler, Gant and Coleman families; and a host of nieces, nephews, his church family, and numerous friends.
Michael touched many lives and had many wonderful lifelong friendships. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Michael Darion Lewis will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6621 C Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
