Michael Joseph Leonard, 59, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at the Jones Regional Hospital following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev Paul Baldwin and Deacon Douglas Kremer will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will be held at 3 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, Sheryl; four children, Shawna (Dan) Beitz, Hopkinton, Hans (Shawndell) Leonard, Waukee, Isaac (Tara Leytem) Leonard, Monticello, and Jordan (Jane Redlinger) Leonard, Cedar Rapids; two grandsons, Nathan and Tyler Beitz; his parents, Marcus and Irma Leonard; two sisters, Diane (Dan) Leibold and Janine (Robert) Bossard, all of Monticello; his mother-in-law, Dolores Kremer, Anamosa; and brothers-in-law, Douglas Kremer, East Dubuque, Ill., and James (Mary) Kremer, Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father-in-law, Loras Kremer.
Michael Joseph Leonard was born Feb. 15, 1956, at the Anamosa Community Hospital. He was the son of Marcus and Irma Oltmanns Leonard. Mike attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1974. He worked for Harms Way Trucking and continued his education at Kirkwood College in the animal sciences program. Michael Leonard and Sheryl Kremer were married May 6, 1978, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello.
From 1979 to 1994, Mike farmed with his father. Since then he had worked in agriculture-related sales positions with Midwestern BioAg, Naylor Seed and Smothers Equipment, and currently worked for Naylor Bag and Supply. In his spare time with his children, he operated Lawns R Us mowing service.
Mike was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He has also belonged to the Eastern Iowa Ski Club, Jones County Dairy Producers, FFA and 4-H. He coached Little League and flag football while his sons were playing ball. He was an avid downhill skier, loved the Hawkeyes, the Cubs, the Packers, going camping with family and special friends, traveling and playing cards with the card club. He was always ready for a good game of euchre.
