MICHAEL LEE HUSTON
Big Flat, Ark.
Michael Lee Huston, 84, of Big Flat, Ark., passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at his home with family at his side. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 11, 1933. His parents are the late Lawrence Huston and Anna Peachek Huston.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After leaving the Army, Mike went to work for a ranch in Colorado as a roper. This fostered a love for horses that Mike had throughout his life. He then went on to work for Penick and Ford in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When they closed, he began work at Wilson Foods and worked as a foreman until the closing of the company. He worked at the Higley Building in the maintenance department until his retirement. He then moved to Arkansas and became head of the water department in Big Flat where he worked until his complete retirement from the workforce. Besides his aforementioned love of horses, Mike was an avid gun collector. He also enjoyed his growing collection of knives, boots and cowboy hats. Mike was a wonderful woodworker and his craft is evident in the items he built for his home. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and his strong presence will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sharon Beaman Huston of the home; daughters, Lori Huston of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Michele Heiken and husband, Bruce, of Lisbon, Iowa; stepdaughters, Lori Hanson and husband, Lyle, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lynnette Merta and husband, Randy, of Walford, Iowa, and Lesley Finder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Kelsey Huston of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Addison Heiken of Colorado Springs, Colo., Danielle Heiken of Minneapolis, Minn., Chris Hanson and wife, Jordon, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Chase Hanson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Marcus Robinson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Harper Huston, Claire Hanson and Ellias Tomalogia-Robinson; and brother, Terry Huston of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
