Michael J. Wheeler, 80, of Quasqueton, Iowa, died on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, in Quasqueton.
Michael was born on April 24, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John L. and Lorene A. (Holets) Wheeler. He was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. On Jan. 26, 1963, he married Judith Schuster in Cedar Rapids. Together they made their home in Cedar Rapids, and had two children together, Christina and Susan. They later divorced. In 1966 he moved to Rock Islands, Ill., and had two children with Patricia Owens: John and James. He later moved back to Cedar Rapids, and married Janet Wedo. Mike spent 30 years working at the Crawford Quarry in Cedar Rapids as the supervising maintenance technician.
Michael and Janet spent years camping in Quasqueton. Over those years they fell in love with the community, and in 1995 they purchased a home there. Together they enjoyed sitting on their porch listening to country music, playing cards with their friends and quiet nights just watching the river.
He is survived by his three children, Christina (John) Mattarochia, Phoenix, Ariz., Susan (Matthew) Burke, Grand Mound, Iowa, and John (Pam) Wheeler, Marion, Iowa; three stepchildren, Corrina Todd, Calamus, Iowa, Christina (Roxie) Myers-Peterson, Winthrop, Iowa, and Kenneth (Ronda) Sheridan, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Francis Deaton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Diane Dunn, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Gary (Gerry) Wheeler, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorene Wheeler; his wife, Janet Wheeler; a son, James Wheeler; a stepson, Keith Sheridan; and a
brother-in-law, Ray Deaton.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Quasqueton Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Wee Willey's in Quasqueton following the burial.
