Mike’s thoughts of his life:
I was born to John and Luella (Massett) Bosch in Mobridge, SD on October 10, 1956. My career as an only child ended when my brother Jeff (Luann) and sister Sharon Wirth (Matt) came along all too soon. We had a great childhood hunting, fishing, going to the Black Hills and trying to set dad’s radiator repair tank on fire. I loved band, choir and winning the Betty Crocker Homemaker of the year award at Mobridge High School. I started college at USD. On January 29, 1976, a friend who went to Augustana in Sioux Falls was giving a fellow student named Joni Jacobsen a ride home for winter break. They stopped at USD, came to my room, and it was love at first sight! I transferred to Augie. We got married on May 29, 1978, and graduated with nursing degrees in 1979. We moved to Lander WY and our son, Jared and our daughter, Cassie (Chris Ahern) were born there. We moved back to Iowa to be closer to family and our daughter, Kristen (Brian Witt) was born here. They are wonderful kids and in-laws (including Jeremy and Kristen Reynolds).
We worked at the University of Iowa. I had some of the best coworkers in the world from 1982-2018 (me) and 2019 (Joni). Yes, we retired just in time for covid. Nonetheless we managed some awesome vacations. Backpacking with the kids, Walt Disney World, Amtrak rides with Jared, road trips out west, Hawaii, Paris, Rome, London, and a cruise with Joni’s family. It’s an awesome world but the Grand Tetons may be my favorite.
We have seven grandkids, five of which, Jacoby, Harrison and Emmett Ahern, and Brooklyn and Leighton Reynolds, were born out of state, and two of whom, Macy Ahern and Madison Witt were born in Iowa. Then they all moved to Iowa City! I loved reading Captain Underpants and goofing off with them.
Sorry, guys, fate has decided it is time for me to go. I am looking forward to seeing you all again, and being with my dad, Joni’s dad, and my grandpa George, who I never got to meet. Love you all so very much!
