Michael J. Gutierrez, 65,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, at the funeral home.
Michael was born May 16, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Antonia (Cortez) Gutierrez. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after high school. Michael worked at Quaker Oats as a millwright for 20 years. He was also a journeyman carpenter who owned Gutierrez Construction. Michael enjoyed fishing, mowing and being outdoors. He was an excellent cook and tried his luck at the casinos for fun.
Michael is survived by his wife, Beverly Dougherty; children, Brian Gutierrez, Tina (Michael) Jeffers, Lisa Hayes and Sarah Johnson; grandchildren, Gage, Skyler, Alayna, Devin, Landon, Owen, Jacob, Laina and Reyna; brother, David Gutierrez; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Timothy Gutierrez.
Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
