Michael Duane O’Brien, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2023. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Michael was born April 16, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Derald and Vivian (Vesey) O’Brien. He graduated from Washington High School. Michael served in the United States Army from 1968-71. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids for 39 years until his retirement in 2011 and at Hot Shots for 10 years. Michael enjoyed spending time at his cabin in North Buena Vista, Iowa, being on the river, and watching Hawkeye games.
Survivors include his son, Casey O’Brien; sister, Linda Shaffer; niece, Denice Brotherton; nephew, Duane Ortberg; and ex-wife, Cyndi O’Brien.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Derald and Vivian O’Brien; sister, Juanita Benishek; and brother, Dennis O’Brien.
