Michael David Mills, 55, of Kalona, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at home surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, at St. Joseph Church, Hills. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mike Mills Memorial Fund.

Mike was born on May 27, 1962, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of James and Marilyn (Kleinschmidt) Mills. He graduated from West High School in 1980, and was a standout baseball player. Mike was a fleet manager and mechanic for Eldon C. Stutsman Inc. in Hills for 17 years. He was united in marriage to Carol Fritz on Feb. 7, 2015, in Hills, Iowa. Mike was a member of St. Joseph Church and Hills Town and Country. He was a baseball coach for many years. Mike was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time on the acreage he shared with Carol.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carol; three children, Jared (Jacky) Mills of Riverside, Iowa, Andrew (Katie Buschelman) Mills of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Katelyn (Marc Belluomini) Mills of Grayslake, Ill., and their daughter, Chloe; parents, James and Marilyn Mills of Munising, Mich.; grandmother, Helen (Frank) Falada of Kalona, Iowa; and brothers, Martin (Bridget) Mills and Matthew (Amy) Mills of Muscatine, Iowa.

Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edwin and Ruby Mills; and maternal grandfather, Emery Kleinschmidt.
