Michael Alan Pernicka, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Mercy Hallmar following a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday at noon at the Eagles Club.
Mike is survived by his sister, Debbie (Gary) Riley of Toddville; girlfriend, Kim Hill of Cedar Rapids; nephews, Kyle Riley of Arlington, Va., and Brian (Kelsey) Riley of Waukee; and great-nephews, Brayden and Kellen Riley of Waukee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved dog, Sasha.
Michael was born on April 26, 1953, in Dubuque, the son of Harold and Helen Loufek Pernicka. In 1971, he graduated from LaSalle High School, Cedar Rapids, and attended Iowa State University. Michael worked at Turner Microphone, Torrance Electric and Hupp Electric, and retired in 2017 from Quaker Oats. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 40 years and served as a trustee.
Mike always loved animals, especially dogs, wolves, eagles and owls. He will be missed by his family and friends.
The family especially thanks his caregiver "angels" at Hallmar for their loving care, and the Mercy Hospice staff.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the International Wolf Center, Cedar Valley Humane Society or an animal rescue center of your choice.
