Michael, Agnes L.
Agnes L. Michael, 96, of Oelwein, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, where a parish Scripture service begins at 6:30 p.m. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Agnes Leona Wilson was born July 27, 1915, at Fairbank, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. William W. and Ida Belle (Barnhart) Wilson. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy at Fairbank. Agnes was united in marriage to Theodore John “Ted” Michael on Jan. 4, 1937, at Fairbank. They farmed outside of Walker, moving in 1962 to Oelwein, where Agnes worked at Ross Clothing Store.
Agnes was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She enjoyed music, playing cards, gardening and most especially, the time she spent with her family.
Agnes is survived by her 10 children: Rita (Ron) Basquin of Hiawatha, Roger (Karen) Michael of West Union, Allen (Lou) Michael of McLoud, Okla., Tom Michael of Bullhead City, Ariz., Judy (John) Martinez of Jamestown, Calif., Jim (Mary Jo) Michael of Cedar Falls, Bert Michael of Oelwein, Chuck Michael of Oelwein, Bill Michael of Oakdale, Calif., and
Teresa (Jeff) Lawless of Bassett; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Michael of Hiawatha; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted on Nov. 7, 1988; a son, David Michael in Vietnam in 1965; a great-grandson, Bradley J. Mitchell; seven brothers and two sisters.
