Mezera, Edward J.
Edward J. Mezera, 73, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien, with the Rev. James Weighner officiating. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Military rites will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and wake service at 7:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janice, of Prairie du Chien; his daughters, Cathy Fitzhugh of Waukesha, Wis., Kay (Doug) Hayes of Baltimore, Md., Wanda (James) Condoluci of Minneapolis and Audrey Jones of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Dorothy Luckason of Lannon, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and dear friends, Joe Flottmeyer and Junior Sconyers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Rosemary Malin.
He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Vincent and Catherine (Mittereiter) Mezera. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Janice Schneider on June 25, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He retired from Local 263 Sheet Metal Workers Union.
His hobbies were his neighborhood garage, pontooning, fun-loving sense of humor and his daily inspections of PdC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
