Meyers, Vincent E.
Vincent E. Meyers, 92, of Iowa City, died peacefully Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Iowa City Care Center. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Mary's Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Vince was born April 29, 1919, in Luxemberg, Iowa, the son of Matthias and Caroline Herzog Meyers. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Vince married Helen Goerdt on Oct. 30, 1948 in Dyersville.
Vince was employed by Amoco, retiring in 1987. He and his wife moved to Iowa City from Naperville, Ill. in 1982.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church and liked to golf, play pool at the Senior Center and spend time with his family.
Vince is survived by his loving wife, Helen and their two daughter and six grandchildren, Janet (Tom) Hunt of Rock Island, Ill. and their children, Jennifer, Jeff and Ryan, and Carol (Mark) Callaghan of Iowa City and their sons, Jason, Kyle and Brent; and one brother Herbert (Lois) Meyers.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, John Thomas Callaghan; and two brothers, Robert and Donald.
