Meyer, Virginia 'Gini' Irene
Virginia “Gini” Irene Meyer, 82, of Monona, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg.
She was born April 22, 1931, to Ruth Eilers in Iowa City, Iowa and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.On March 14, 1953, Gini was united in marriage to Neil Meyer in Dubuque at St. Mark Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Swarbrick officiating. To this union five children were born.
She was a devoted wife and mother. For many years, Gini taught piano lessons for the children of the community. She was known for her pleasant personality and her delicious pies.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Gini is survived by five children, Jill (Jim) Fuhrman of Volga, Brian Meyer of Monona, Lynn (Paul) Jones of Harpers Ferry, Larry Meyer of Manchester and Amy (Kert) Johnson of Coralville; 14 grandchildren, B.J. Fuhrman (fiancee, Jolie Tegels) of West Des Moines, Leah Fuhrman of Cedar Rapids, Nicholas (Elsie) Meyer of Monona, Shannon (Wyatt) Dodd of McGregor, Phillip (Amanda) Meyer of Monona, Jared (Carrie) Jones of Charles City, Amanda (Stuart) Bloxham of Waukon, Hannah Jones of Fremont, Neb., Stuart Jones of Waukon, Lexi Meyer of Minneaplolis, Brett Meyer (friend, Sheena) of Rochester, Minn., Heidi Meyer of Elgin, Isaiah Johnson of Coralville and Elena Johnson of Coralville; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Gini was preceded in death by her mother, and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Meyer.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona and also one hour before services Monday at the church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona. The Rev. Dennis Hopes will officiate.Burial will follow in Monona Cemetery.
