Meyer, Phyllis E.
Phyllis E. Meyer, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ Church Presbyterian, by the Rev. Ron Lewis. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Friends may also visit at the church on Thursday after 9 a.m.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Meyer and Leslie Meyer, and brother, Wayne (Betty) Marchal, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Norma (Clem) Alley of Lombard, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph (1999); parents; and brother, Paul Jr.
Phyllis Elaine Meyer was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Paul and Velma Emry Marchal. She married Ralph J. Meyer on June 20, 1948, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. In her earlier years she attended Roosevelt High School and during that time was a majorette for the Cedar Rapids Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduation from Roosevelt she attended beauty school and worked as a beautician.
Later on Phyllis was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, a Blue Bird and Campfire leader, a Jefferson Band Parent and member of the PTA. She was also active in the Women's Association at Christ Church Presbyterian, where she and Ralph were charter members. Phyllis enjoyed embroidery, mall walking at Westdale, and cake decorating. Phyllis and Ralph were season ticket holders to the Kernels games and loved to watch them play baseball. They also enjoyed dancing to country and western music.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, and caregiver. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
