Ottilie (Tilly) Franziska Meyer of Vinton, Iowa, passed peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the age of 87. Tilly was born on March 28, 1926, in Schwandorf, Germany, to Otto and Franziska Segerer. Tilly attended and graduated from Catholic school in Germany. After graduation, she went to work with her mother in the family restaurant business.

During World War II, Tilly met an American soldier and fell in love. Tilly and Richard William Thompson wed in 1948 in Germany and the union produced one son and three daughters during their 22 years of marriage. Tilly and Richard traveled many times overseas during Richard's 20 years of service with the U . S. Army.

In 1968, Tilly moved to Florida where she made her home in Mount Dora for the next 36 years. There she worked for Waterman Hospital in Eustis, Fla., in the OB ward and cherished her work there for nearly 30 years. Some of her favorite hobbies were gardening and playing bingo.

In 1997, Tilly was blessed to find love a second time and married Harold Chambliss Meyer and they enjoyed their lives together until Hal's passing in 2004. In 2004, Tilly made her final move to Vinton, Iowa, and lived at the Vinton Lutheran Home from 2012 until her passing.

Tilly is survived by her three daughters, Monica (Al) Miller of Shellsburg, Shirley (Mike) Raue of Urbana, and Diana Haack of Cedar Rapids; her five

grandchildren, Mark Chittenden, Jodi Raue, Megan Hauck, Sadie Raue and Heather Hughes; and her step grandson, Nathan Miller.

Tilly also was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Faith and Hannah Chittenden, Jakobi Hughes, Kaylee Hauck and Macora Lee; and a stepgreat-grandson, Kasey Miller.

Tilly was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Otto; the two loves of her life, Richard and Harold; and also by her only son, Richard.

Tilly was the type of woman who left an impression upon everyone she met. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose family meant everything to her. She will be missed more than there are words to express.

A Celebration of Life/Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Vinton Lutheran Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, officiated by the Rev. Urlaub.
