Mervin H. Dochterman, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Certified Celebrant Paula Meyer will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ramona; his children, Ricky P. Dochterman of Bella Vista, Ark., Jerri Lee Toll and Judd of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Connie Bevard and Tom of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ronnie Dochterman of Lakeview, Ark., and Derrick Dochterman and Janel of Marion; his sister, Norma Hoge of Colorado; and a brother, Dennis Dochterman. Mervin had 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a
great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Melvin and Kenneth Dochterman; and his sister, Joyce Mullin.
Mervin was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Roxana, Ill., the son of Mervin and Irma (Jones) Dochterman. He married Ramona Rayner on March 8, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa. Mervin loved the outdoors, hunting, camping and canoeing. He was a consummate storyteller and a published author and poet. Mervin worked for FMC for 31 years, and owned and operated Doc's Cycle in Marion for 15 years.
