Merton Harry Krumrei, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center following a short illness. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Martha Krumrei; his sons, Neil (Clara) Krumrei of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dean (Kathy) Krumrei of Robins, Iowa, Brian (Michele) Krumrei of Sacramento, Calif., and Curtis Krumrei of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his brother, Charles (Sharon) Krumrei of Bella Vista, Ark.; and his aunt, Gweneth White of Athelstane, Wis. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kay.
Merton was born July 8, 1928, in Athelstane, Wis., the son of Harry and Lucia (Dunn) Krumrei. He married the love of his life, Martha Carol Smith, on April 5, 1953, in Evansville, Ind. Merton worked in the family store from 1953 to 1963 and then for Modern Woodman Insurance Co. until 1989, and worked in broker sales until retiring in 2002. Merton enjoyed the great outdoors, taking many walks in the woods. He also loved square dancing, big band and bluegrass music.
