Merlyn D Turner
MERLYN D. TURNER
Marshalltown
Merlyn D. "Merdog" Turner, 67, of Marshalltown, formerly of Urbana and Center Point, pased away unexpectedly from complications from surgery on April 30, 2021. Per Merlyn's request, cremation was performed and no services are planned at this time.
Merlyn served in the Navy from December 1971 to December 1972. He received a National Defense Service Medal, rank discharge E3.
He worked as a waterman in Nevada, as well as a scrap metal factory. Merlyn lived at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, since 2009.
He loved motorcycles. Anything Harley and horses and playing touch screen games to pass his time.
I'm quoting from a man who said it best: "Merlyn loved his beer and women, and he used cuss words as nouns, verbs and adjectives, all in the same sentence."
Merlyn had a huge heart and was a kind, loving soul. He made everyone laugh. Merlyn will be missed by all who knew him.
Merlyn is survived by dear friends and extended family, Darrell and Connie Moore and family, Center Point, Iowa, and Aaron and Cherise Zuck and family, Newhall, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Turner and Darlena Hugh; and special companion, Patricia White.
We would like to thank the doctors and staff at UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown for staying with Merlyn and being so caring during this time, and to Wyatt Manship and staff at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for his amazing care, being a part of his life and putting up with his humor! And helping us communicate with him.
Memorials may be made to Darrell Moore, or make a donation in Merlyn's name to the Marshaltown, Iowa, Veterans Home.
