Merlin Darrell Moore, 84, of Anamosa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Merlin was born Aug. 31, 1933, to Alfred and Katherine Hinrichs Moore in Fulton, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Conner on Feb. 9, 1952. She passed away in 2015.
Merlin and Carolyn had six children: Kent (Becky) Moore, Karla (Tanner) Sauer, Kim Moore (predeceased), Kyle (Donna Wenndt) Moore, Kandis (Jon) Alderdyce and Kip (Tami) Moore. They had 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Merlin attended school in Wyoming and Hale, graduating from high school in Olin in 1951. He worked at Clinton Engine. He then started farming in 1955 in the Monticello/Castle Grove area. In 1967, he purchased a farm and moved to Anamosa (Cass Township), where he was currently residing.
In 1979, he was elected to Jones County Board of Supervisors, a position he held for 26 years. He worked for Conmey Real Estate in Anamosa for 12 years, then opened Merlin Moore Realty, which he operated for 18 years.
Merlin also managed Kents Kountry Kombo, a band formed by his children, Kent and Karla, for seven years.
Merlin and Carolyn loved traveling to the dances on Saturday nights to listen to his children and their band.
Merlin loved to travel to Branson with family to hear Daniel O'Donnell. He loved his farm, couldn't get away from his little piece of earth. He loved his grandchildren and handed out M&Ms to all of them when they visited, even telling them about the alligator in his pond and telling hunting stories.
Merlin was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; son, Kim; parents; four brothers and three sisters.
Merlin leaves behind a loving family, who will never be able to replace his loving grace.
Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence Center in Anamosa. Private burial will be at a later date.
