Merle William Price, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at his home in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Tuesday. March 1, from noon until service time at 2 p.m. with the Certified Celebrant Dr. James Coyle officiating. A livestream of the service will be available on the Cedar Memorial website, under Merle's obituary under the video tab, starting on Tuesday, March 1, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Memorial Lawn. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Family Center.
Merle was born on June 24, 1929, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was the son of the late Edward L. and Bernice (Roland) Price. On Dec. 31, 1961, Merle married the love of his life, Charlotte, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Merle was a devoted Christian and had an undying love for his wife. Merle was a Veteran in the U.S. Army during WWII. Merle was able to take the Honor Flight, which was one of his greatest experiences. He worked at Bell Transfer & Moving for a few years, then he worked for the railroad, until he started his career as a postal clerk at the U.S. Postal Service, where he served for several years before his retirement. Merle loved to travel and camp with his wife Charlotte. He enjoyed woodworking and "tinkering" in the garage. He was a gifted photographer.
Those left to cherish Merle's memory are his children, Merle M. (Stephanie Heacock) Price of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ronald L. Price of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Thelma Smith of Oelwein, Iowa; his stepchildren, Joan Wilkinson of Grand Island, Neb., and Gene Rogers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; Martha Sundberg (companion); and his loyal companion, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, his sons, Ralph Arnold Price and Roland "Roach" Price; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Price; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Honor Flight.
The family would like to thank Therapy Solutions and Hospice of Mercy, as well as his dedicated caregivers, Reign Shannon, Faith Gerot, Donna Beachy, Madison Price, Deb Cook and Stephanie Heacock.
