Merle W. Lehrman, 97, of Stanwood, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence. Burial will follow at the Stanwood Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Merle was born on March 9, 1921, to Herman and Anna (Luedeman) Lehrman in Stanwood, Iowa. He married Maxine Andresen on Oct. 18, 1942, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stanwood. She died on Sept. 15, 2014.
Merle was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He was awarded four Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Stanwood Legion and a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Merle was a carpenter and a farmer in life. He previously worked for the city of Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed fishing and trips to Arizona, was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and loved dances and Lyle Beaver. Merle enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Maxine, and loved his family dearly.
Merle is survived by his daughter, Carole Lehrman Anderson of Cedar Rapids; sons, Robert of Bettendorf and David (Eva Fried) of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Tracy (Carl) Barton, Kelly (Joanna) Anderson, Rhonda (Marc Graham) McDonald, Stephanie (Sam) Roll, Derek Lehrman and Alix Lehrman; five great-grandchildren; brother, Frederick (Marge) Lehrman of Stanwood; and sister, Eloise Wood of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; brothers, Erwin and Louis; granddaughter, Lisa Anderson; and infant sister, Pauline.
