Merle Lee Hepker, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Eileen; son, Gary Hepker; daughter, Velda (Bruce) Feuerbach; granddaughter, Lisa (Steve); grandson, Michael; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Julia, Jace, Clayton, Madelynn and Brianna; sister-in-law, Bernita Troxel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elias and Clifford Hepker; and grandson, Jeffrey Feuerbach.
Merle was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Urbana, Iowa, the son of George "Albert" and Mable (Kisling) Hepker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On March 23, 1947, Merle and Eileen (Miller) were united in marriage in rural Benton County. He retired from the Wilson Packing House and was a member of the American Legion for over 70 years. Merle enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and playing cards. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
