MERITA BRECHT

Merita Fay Brecht, 77, of Marengo, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by three daughters, Becky Brecht of Marengo, Bonnie Nicely (Randy VonLienen) of Homestead and Brenda Stratton (Mike) of Homestead; a son, Russell Brecht of Marengo; nine grandchildren, Eric Brecht, Alicia Claypool (Garyn), Danielle Henre (Michael II), Roy Brecht, Tyler Brecht, Jason Stratton, Bruce Brecht, Kyia Jo Brecht and Kelsie Eckhardt; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Merle Martens (Arlet) of West Des Moines, Oris Martens (Betty) of West Amana and Frederick Martens of Coralville; foster daughters, Irene (Joe) Matthess and family of Marengo and Tanya Jackson of Fort Worth, Texas; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lilia Bayer Martens; her husband, Dean, in 1990; a sister, Eulalia Garrett-Bates; and a niece, Deb Gregory.
