Menge, Marvin John
Marvin John Menge, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was born July 13, 1931, to Charles and Margaret (Monnahan) Menge at Edgewood, Iowa. In 1936, they moved to Greeley, Iowa, where he was raised and educated. He served proudly in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. On Nov. 23, 1956, he married Illa Welsh at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Together they raised seven children.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Larry Rodgers of Oak Grove Church, Shellsburg Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife; children, Cindy (Mark) Carpenter, Ronda (Brian Kelley) Hood, Marla Bateman, Carles (Doug) Farley, Charles (Lori Ask) Menge, Anita (Lon) Richardson and Ellie (Todd) Cornell; sister, Annie Conner; sisters-in-law, Virgie Menge, Boone Menge and Esther Welsh; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond, Louis, Burdette, George and twin boys; sisters, Norma (Ray) Nimmo and Mary Jane (Ed) McDowell; his parents; son-in-law, John Truett Bateman; mother and father-in-law, Mel and Elsie Welsh; brothers-in-law, Larry Conner, Jess, Gilbert (Lucille), Dennis, Cecil and Melvin “Bo” Welsh; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Loren) Crider, Mildred (Bob) Ross and Edith (Dorran) Phillips.
He faithfully worked at the Weyerhaeuser Company from 1956 to 1994. He had many friends at Franks, The Keg & Home Port. He loved to play cards and watch sports.
