Melvin P. Mattson, 82, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 13, 2015. He resided in North St. Paul, Minn., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Melvin was born on a farm in Cadott, Wis., in 1932 and moved to Minnesota to attend college. He was a Korean War veteran. Mel was united in marriage to Lorraine (Lund) Mattson in 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wis. They were longtime members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, North St. Paul, Minn.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; children, Debra (Bob) Bosak, Barbara (Claude) Forshier and Jonathan Mattson (Lisa) of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jennifer Hill (Ryan Herbenson), Jaclyn Thesing (Sam), Brian Bosak and Emma Mattson; sister, Dr. Carol Mattson Porth and her children, Rick Porth, Susan James (Tom) and Sandy Porth; other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elof and Caroline Mattson.
Mel traveled the world as a nuclear engineer for G.E. until retirement.
His passions were collecting antiques, making maple syrup at his farm in Cadott, Wis., and his family.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Sandberg Funeral Home, 2593 E. Seventh Ave., North St. Paul, Minn., with visitation one hour before services. Private interment: Lakeview Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, North St. Paul, Minn., or Big Drywood Lutheran Church, Cadott, Wis.
