Melvin "Leroy" Lorenz, 85, died April 1, 2014, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne, with the Rev. Michael Musick officiating. Interment will be at Luzerne Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Melvin Leroy Arthur Lorenz, known to family and friends as "Leroy," was born Jan. 25, 1929, near Williamsburg to Arnold and Emma (Huedopohl) Lorenz. On Feb. 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Eleanor M. Hacker at St. John Lutheran Church in Marengo. She preceded him in death April 7, 1993.
Melvin farmed in the Luzerne area before retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Luzerne and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his sons, the Rev. Marvin (Mary) Lorenz of Luzerne, James (Pam) Lorenz of Pe-culiar, Mo., and Larry (Nancy Engelking) of Luzerne; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Lorna Rieck of Luzerne.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joni Marie Lorenz; and his brother, Hilbert Lorenz.
Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
