Melvin Lee Jensen, 71, of Marion, Iowa, passed away
on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. The family plans to hold a celebration of Melvin's life later this summer.
Melvin was born May 22, 1949, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Donald and Dorothy (Wilcox) Jensen. He graduated from Marion High School and Kirkwood Community College. On Feb. 17, 1968, Melvin was united in marriage to Mary Lou Perez in Marion. He was a firefighter for many years for the City of Cedar Rapids before retiring in 1980. Melvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He loved sports and played basketball for many years. Melvin was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Melvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Melvin is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jensen of Marion; two children, Zandra Jensen of Marion and Michael Jensen of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Seth and Collin Jensen of Des Moines; one great-grandchild, Conner Jensen; four brothers, Roger (Sue) Jensen of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Diane) Jensen of Marion, Terry (Lisa) Jensen of San Antonio, Texas, and Tony Jensen of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Dorothy Jensen; and one brother, Rodney Jensen.
