Melanie Waterman, 58, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A memorial gathering will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Melanie Waterman was born June 7, 1956, the daughter of George and Fern (Kemp) Kanellis. She graduated from Metro High School with the class of 1974. Melanie married Scott Mullin on Aug. 16, 1975; they later divorced. Melanie was employed for 19 years at Hy-Vee.
She loved reading books, especially by Nicholas Sparks.
Melanie had a big heart, always wanting to give to others. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, who enriched the lives of all those she knew, including her co-workers and customers.
Melanie is survived by four children, Jen Mullin (Kim) of Marion, Jeremy Mullin of Vinton, Joe Mullin (Ranell) of Cedar Rapids and Jessica Mullin of Marion; her mother, Fern (Kemp) Kanellis of Cedar Rapids; sister, Carmen (Richard) Jurgensen of Ashboro, N.C.; and six grand-children, Kaytlynn, Hanna, Billie, Matthew, Emily and Myleigh.
Melanie was preceded in death by her father, George Kanellis, and sister, Pam Parker.
