Meis, Francis 'Fran' J.

Francis “Fran” J. Meis, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Manor Care Health Center. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.

Francis was born April 22, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Herman and Margaret (Larsen) Meis. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was an avid collector of life's treasures and antiques. Fran enjoyed cooking, watching the Hawkeyes and traveling.

Francis is survived by his son, Daniel Meis of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Diane (Joel) Avery of Robins and Molly (Dennis) Knock of Atkins; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Tony (Diane) Meis and John (Margene) Meis; and sisters, Jody (Jack) Sherwin, Therese (Fred) LaChance and Molly (Richard) Connor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John in 2002; a sister, Mary Meis Collins; and brothers, James Edward in infancy, Thomas Patrick and Herman Benedict Meis.
