Meineke, Gary Glenn
Gary Glenn Meineke, 56, of Jackson, N.J., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010. The cause of death was injuries suffered from a work-related accident. A memorial service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at 11 a.m. June 12 at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 304 First St., Mount Vernon, where the family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Gary was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on June 12, 1953, the son of Glenn and Delorus E. (Gerber) Meineke, and resided in Marion before moving to New Jersey. He graduated from Central City High School in 1971. He married Sue Anne Cotton in 1970 and they divorced in 2002. His last employer in Iowa was Terex Cedarapids, where he worked as a welder. He was currently employed by Chicago Ridge and Iron, Inc., New Castle, Del. He was a welder and pusher for a crew that builds water towers. He was a member of Boilermakers Local 28.
He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and collecting scaled models of construction toys and tractors. He also enjoyed hunting and target shooting and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Sally Anne Strah (husband, Steve) of Coralville; his sisters, Glenda Kurth (husband, Kenneth) of Anamosa and Arlene Dudley (husband, Neil) of Central City; several nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend, Sharon Beardsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
