Meewes, Norma Jean
Norma Jean Meewes, 76, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Dike United Methodist Church, 439 Church St., Dike. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Norma was born March 14, 1933, in Dike, Iowa, to Hans and Della (Koch) Andersen. She married Lester Laverne Meewes on June 27, 1954, in Dike and made their home in Cedar Rapids. Norma was formerly employed as a teacher's aide with the Cedar Rapids Public School District and did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society. She was also very proud to be an excellent homemaker all her life. Norma was a member of Lovely Lane Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Norma enjoyed golfing, cooking and baking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and playing with all her grandchildren.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Cindy (Alan) Peterson of Urbandale and Penny Roberts of Tama; son, Brad (Korrine) Meewes of Woodbury, Minn.; brother, Mervin (Barbara) Andersen of Arizona; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Meewes on the same date in 2000; and one sister, Margie.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
The Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel, in Madrid assisted the family with arrangements.
