Means, Dorothy (Wieditz) Gibson
Dorothy (Wieditz) Gibson Means, 82, formerly of Cedar Rapids, made her peaceful journey to heaven on Saturday, March 6, 2010, after a brief stay at Birmingham Green Nursing Home in Manassas, Va. She had been living with her daughter, Kristie, for two years before that. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion, followed by inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dorothy was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Van Horne, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Rinderknecht) Wieditz. She graduated from Van Horne High School. Dorothy married Charles C. “Gibby” Gibson on Sept. 21, 1947. He died April 21, 1987. On May 9, 1991, she married Jack Means. He died Jan. 31, 2007. Before retiring, Dorothy worked as a manager of the Lin House gift store at Lindale Plaza.
Surviving Dorothy are three children, Kristie (Lester) Mills of Manassas, Va., Peggy Wullner of Raymondville, Mo., and Guy (Shannon) Gibson of North English; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Loreen (Beryl) Eller of Fort Myers, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Harold, Howard and Robert Wieditz.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping and playing the slots.
She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice.
