Meade, Joseph W.
Joseph W. Meade, 90, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
Memorials can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Mercy Foundation.
Joseph was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Johnson County, Iowa, to Thomas and Catherine (Burns) Meade. He graduated from Iowa State with a B.S. degree in agricultural education. Joe was a teacher, he farmed and then was a salesman for Cedar Johnson Farm Service for over 20 years. Joseph was married to Beatrice VeDepo for over 20 years before her death in 1973. He then married Thelma Taylor in 1974. Joseph was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; two daughters, Linda Potter (David) of Oxford and LuAnne Krahn (Wayne) of Johnston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Bryant of Tiffin and Marguerite Stockman of Oxford.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Mary Ball, Genevieve Mann, Alice Kuebrich, Lucile Stimmel and Leona Meade; three brothers, Robert, Ralph and Thomas Meade; and two stepchildren, Michael James and Cheryl Lehnert.
