McVicker, William Kenneth

William Kenneth McVicker, 82, of Hiawatha, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones, Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Tuesday at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Halvorson. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joyce; children, Bill (Sandy) McVicker of Hiawatha, Carla (Daniel) Murphy of Sammamish, Wash., and Kent (Bonnie) McVicker of Sherrill; and siblings, James (Lorraine) McVicker and JoAnne Leininger, both of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Bill was born July 28, 1930, in Boone to William and Blanche McVicker. In 1950, he joined the National Guard, serving until 1960. He married Joyce Olson in Hamilton County on Jan. 28, 1951. Bill retired from Iowa Electric after 36 years. Bill was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church.
Bill enjoyed golf, softball, bowling and getting together with family and friends. His greatest passion was his family. Bill and Joyce enjoyed spending their winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cowden and staff in the Critical Care unit and Hospice at St. Luke's and the Rev. Mark Halvorson for their support and compassion.
