McVey, Edna E.
VINTON - Edna E. McVey, 98, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Karen Larson officiating. Private committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may register at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Edna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Murphy of Olympia, Wash.; her grandson, Michael Murphy, also of Olympia; her granddaughter, Kathleen Hoopchuk and husband Ross of Greenbrier, Ark.; and her great-grandchildren, Sara and Trey Hoopchuk of Greenbrier. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on Dec. 14, 2003; and her only brother, Rex Browning.
Edna was born in Avalon, Mo., to Samuel J. and Jessie (Stowe) Browning on Feb. 25, 1912. She graduated from Avalon High School in 1929 and attended Missouri Valley College. Edna taught elementary education for three years and also did clerical work in Kansas City before her marriage. On June 19, 1938, she married Robert McVey in Kansas City, Mo. They resided in Kansas City and St. Louis before moving to Vinton in 1953.
Edna was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter MZ, New Century Club and had been a longtime member of the Vinton Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Virginia Gay Hospital or a favorite charity.
