McVay, Mary Jane
Mary Jane McVay, 77, of 622 Fourth Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, died at her home Sunday, May 12, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Bloomfield by Pastor Tom Gibson. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home.
Mary is survived by her husband, Phillip; two sons, Roger (Verna) Smith of Grand Mound and Max (Robin) Enoch of Davenport; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pat Andersen of Moline; two brothers, Kenny (Barbara) Rominger of North Carolina and David (Hilda) Rominger of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl, Lester, Richard, James Clay Jr., Donald and Bobby.
Mary was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Wapello, the daughter of James and Goldie Mathers Rominger and married Phillip McVay on Aug. 23, 1983, in Cedar Rapids. She had worked as a seamstress at Seaferds in Rock Island for many years before moving to Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1998 from Taylor School in Cedar Rapids where she had worked for more than 20 years.
Mary loved collecting frogs and wind chimes, sewing quilts and making wedding cakes for family and friends, volunteering at Taylor School, spending time with her family and doing genealogy research.
