McNeal, Donald Ray
Donald Ray McNeal, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center with his loving family at his side. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Michael Kleeberger. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Don is left to cherish his memory his children, Larry McNeal of Murray, Iowa, Linda (Dick) Debler, Mike (Cheryl) McNeal, Donna Burke, Kory (Becky) McNeal and Terry McNeal, all of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Anna Guthrie of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Robert McNeal of Centerville and Junior McNeal of Murray; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy; parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
Don was born April 18, 1921, to John and Gertrude McNeal and was raised in Clarke County, Iowa. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1951 with his wife and three children. He remained in Cedar Rapids for the remainder of his life. Don drove truck all his life and before retirement drove for P.I.E.
Don married Vera Lucille Weeter on June 19, 1943, in Lorimor, Iowa. They were married for 56 years before Lucy's passing in 1999. Don loved to fish, mushroom hunt, gamble at the casinos, and spend time eating out with his family.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Mercy ICU and emergency room for their compassion, caring, and the dignity they showed towards our father before his passing.
A memorial fund has been established.
