McNabb, H. Eugene 'Gene'
H. Eugene “Gene” McNabb, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Aug. 29, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial's Certified Celebrant Julie Freese will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 788 and the United States Navy.
Surviving are his children, Carol Carnahan and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, Connie Hulshizer and husband Dave of Cedar Rapids, Cathey Frith and husband Mark of Walker, Craig McNabb and wife Wendy of Cedar Rapids and Curt McNabb and wife Cecilia of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Jim, Bill and Chad Carnahan, Tammy Goedken, Ryan Frith, Renee Taylor, Matt Hulshizer, Jeanice Walker, Scott McNabb, Todd McNabb, Curt McNabb and Dottie McNabb; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his brother, John McNabb of Columbia, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Dorothy, in 2001.
Gene was born April 18, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George W. and Visa R. (Gilroy) McNabb. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Gogg on Feb. 14, 1947, in Marion. He was employed for over 42 years for the railroad, working for Chicago Northwestern and Milwaukee Rock Island Railroad and retiring in 1966.
He was a long time member of Patrick J. Shanahan VFW Post 788 and tended bar there for several years.
Gene's greatest delight was his family who will miss him greatly.
