McKee M.D., Albert Preston
Albert Preston McKee M.D., 98, of Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, died Oct. 12, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, May; his son, Max; and granddaughter, Alison.
He is survived by four sons, Preston, John, Rex and Scott; as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Born on a farm east of Brandon, Iowa, he graduated from Drake University in 1936. He originally planned on following his father into the ministry but later switched to pre-med. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1941 and then joined the microbiology department. In his tenure at Iowa he taught over 2,000 medical students and was a well published researcher.
In 1970, he moved to a position with Ortho Diagnostics in New Jersey. For many years he was a regional director for influenza for the World Health Organization. In 1975, he retired with May to Greer's Ferry Lake in northern Arkansas.
Following May's death in 1998, he moved to Cedar Rapids to be near family.
Memorial services and burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
Overton Funeral Home in Traer is in charge of arrangements.
