McGuire, Michael B.
Michael B. McGuire, 58, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Private inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Michael is survived by children, Corey (Victoria) McGuire, Chris McGuire, and Casey McGuire, all of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Dawn McGuire of Cedar Rapids; brother, Cevn McGuire of Hilo, Hawaii; and grandchildren, Caleigh and Cole McGuire. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mike was born Oct. 15, 1952, in Cedar Rapids to Floyd and Dawn McGuire. He graduated from Washington High School and attended Wartburg College in Waverly. He enlisted in the Air Force and worked in the reception hospital for returning soldiers from Vietnam. Mike worked for General Mills for over 30 years, retiring in 2010. Mike was an Eagle Scout and an active member of First Lutheran Church where he taught Alpha Class and volunteered in the community. He loved HO scale model railroads, railroad museums and riding and watching trains. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors with family. He was an avid Hawkeye and Dallas Cowboys fan. Mike liked many kinds of music and sharing it with friends. Mike enjoyed working with computers and learning new technology but his greatest joy was spent with his grandchildren.
