McGrew, Alta
Alta McGrew, 105, of Springville, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Memorial services will be held at a later date, with interment in the Springville Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, is caring for Alta and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis; a brother, Dale; and a sister, Hilda Armstrong.
Alta S. Stentz was born Nov. 14, 1904, in Linn County, Iowa near Paralta. She was the daughter of George T. and Estella Mann Stentz. She graduated from the Springville High School in 1922 and then continued her education at Coe College. She graduated from Coe in 1926 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. Alta married Willis J. McGrew on Dec. 24, 1927, in Springville. He preceded her in death in April 1989. Alta had worked as a bookkeeper in Cedar Rapids and Springville. She worked last at the Springville Coop. She was always proud of being a graduate of Coe College.
