McGowan, Yvonne Aileen
Yvonne Aileen McGowan, 59, passed away Dec. 1, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 14, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, to Doris and Manly Ray LeClere. Yvonne graduated from Kennedy High School in 1970 and went on to graduate from Kirkwood Community College, with a degree in accounting. She went to work for Principal Financial Group for 20 years.
Yvonne married Bob McGowan and had two daughters, Jennifer and Katie. Many summers were spent enjoying the water at the cabin at Lake Delhi.
Yvonne was a seamstress and especially enjoyed quilting. Some of the best years of Yvonne's life were spent on the dance floor, where she cultivated lifelong friendships. Yvonne also took pride in tending to her flower gardens. Her grandchildren filled her life with joy and they never gave her a dull moment.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Aileen LeClere (Halstead); and her grandparents.
She is survived by daughters, Jennifer McGowan and Katie McGowan; grandchildren, Dante, Shyenna and Nora McGowan; father, Manly Ray LeClere; brother, Alan LeClere; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and other family and friends.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
