McGinty, Donald E.
Donald E. McGinty, 86, of Clinton, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at his home. There will be no visitation as cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be at a later date at the Evangelical Free Church. Mercy Home Care and Hospice of Clinton and Iowa Cremation are assisting the family.
Donald McGinty was born March 3, 1924, to Charles and Ruby (Davis) McGinty in Grinnell, Iowa. In 1932, he moved to Cedar Rapids, where he graduated from high school and went to work for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad for 45 years before retiring in 1986. Don was united in marriage to Ruth Doty on April 6, 1947, in Mendota, Ill. To this union, three children were born.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruby; his wife of 63 years, Ruth; and his son, Dr. Dean McGinty of Portland, Ore.
He is survived by his son, Duane McGinty of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Katherine Dietrich of Valley City, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Christy McGinty of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Evangelical Free Church or the family.
