McFarland, 'Red'
“Red” McFarland, 64, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne with Father Jack McClure C.PP.S. officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Van Horne.
A memorial fund has been established.
Red was born April 8, 1946, in Walker, to Howard and Zelma (Magarell) McFarland. On March 29, 1969, he married JoAnn DeNeve at Van Horne. Red had been a truck driver at Quaker Oats, John Deere and Amana. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and casinos. His greatest pleasure came from watching his grandsons play ball.
He is survived by JoAnn McFarland of Van Horne; three sons, Shane (Ame) McFarland of Pleasant Hill, Jay (Kendall) McFarland of Cedar Rapids and Tim (Kim) McFarland of Blairstown; three grandchildren, Jordan, Austin and Justise McFarland; two stepgrandchildren, Keaton and Kayla Miller; his sisters, Nancy Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Gloria Lowe of Marion; his brothers-in-law, Gene (Becky) DeNeve of Blairstown, Fred (Shirley) DeNeve of Van Horne and Ron Flickinger of Vinton; and several special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdad, George Ulch; and his brother, Mike McFarland.
