McEnany, Loretta Margaret
Loretta Margaret McEnany, 91, of Manchester, formerly of Ryan, died at the Hiawatha Care Center on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with a Scripture service at 3 p.m., and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti, with the Rev. John Flaherty officiating. Interment: St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Monti.
She was born June 4, 1919, in Winthrop, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Moroney) Short. She was raised and educated in rural Monti and graduated from Winthrop High School. Loretta received her teaching certificate and taught in the Buchanan County rural schools.
On May 24, 1944, Loretta was united in marriage to Arthur J. “A.J.” McEnany at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti. Together they lived and farmed on the “home” place until 1996, when they moved to Manchester. Loretta entered the Hiawatha Care Center in December 2009.
Survivors include six children, Arthur (Ginny) McEnany of Harrisonville, MO., Margie (John) Heles of Des Moines, Marilyn (Charlie) Moore of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Dan) Feldmann of Cedar Rapids, Maxine McEnany of Davenport and Bill McEnany of Ryan; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Jon Christensen of Lakeland, Fla.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur on Aug. 21, 2009; her son, Tom McEnany; her daughter, Kathryn Christensen; her grandson, Scott McEnany; her parents; and her seven siblings, Charles Short, Pat Short, Irene Huntington, Bernadine Short, Matt Short, Richard Short and Vince Short.
