McElhinney, Karen Sue

Karen Sue McElhinney, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Cedar Memorial's Certified Staff Celebrant Julie Freese will officiate, with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include her four nieces, Toni Lewis, Linda Hicks, Sherry DeFord and Becky Gombert; brother-in-law, Robert C. Lewis; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; mother, Minnie Hodges; and her sister, Ramona Lewis.

Karen was born Dec. 17, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. Karen married Donald L. McElhinney on Oct. 16, 1982, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Donald passed away July 20, 2003. Karen worked in marketing for Square D Electrical Co., retiring after 25 years of service.

Karen was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards, watching food shows, golf and cartoons, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
