McDougall, Alice Martha
Alice Martha McDougall, 95, of Denver, formerly of rural Dunkerton, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Denver Sunset Home in Denver.
Alice was born Nov. 10, 1917, the daughter of Otto and Anna (Krueger) Gielau in Denver. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. She graduated from Denver High School on May 23, 1935. On Dec. 2, 1936, she was united in marriage to Donald Kenneth McDougall in Charles City, Iowa. The couple farmed together outside Dunkerton for many years.
Alice was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. She enjoyed reading, writing and bowling. She was a great cook, her specialty being homemade pie. She kept busy playing in card clubs, visiting with friends and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Thomas of Crookston, Minn., Donna (Don) Happel of Mount Vernon and Janice (Richard) Fuelling of Dunkerton; one son, Daniel (Betsy) McDougall of Dunkerton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Gielau; and two sisters, Mildred (William) Duhl and Dorothy Wooldrik.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1996; four brothers, Wilbur (Dutch) Gielau, Otto (Pete) Gielau, Robert Gielau and LaVern (Tony) Gielau; three sisters, Florine Gleason, Norma Ricklefs and Anna Marie Gielau; son-in-law, Gary Thomas; and brother-in-law, Carroll Wooldrik.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for one hour before to services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Denver Sunset Home or Dunkerton School Elementary Library.
