McDole, Lloyd O.
Lloyd O. McDole, 82, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Per his wishes, he has been cremated. Services will be later in the year. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda; children, Martin (Jo) McDole of Marion and Lynne (Brian Fahrner) of Cedar Rapids; and siblings, Janice Long of Osceola, Dorothy Hallam of Moline, Ill., and Gayland (Doris) McDole of New Virginia, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and six brothers.
Lloyd Oakley McDole was born Aug. 31, 1930, in New Virginia, Iowa, the son of Edward and Estella (O'Connell) McDole. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and also the nascent Drake University Air Force ROTC, where he finished his education in 1959. On Oct. 31, 1964, he married Brenda Jean Lord in Des Moines. For 24 years, he taught junior high and high school grammar, composition, literature, speech and drama at West Des Moines, Eldora, Urbana and Center Point. He retired from teaching in May 1990. That September, he hired on with Midland Security, working as a security guard at AEGON, and stayed until February 2011.
He was an avid gardener, growing flowers, fruits and vegetables, which he supplied to Meals on Wheels. He was a lifetime member of the Hawkeye Area Grand Gaelic Isles Society.
Memorials may be given to the donor's charity of choice.
