McCright, Paul Rex
Paul Rex McCright, 81, of 2815 Waveland Dr. NW, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at home surrounded by family following a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Family Fellowship by Pastor Craig Bex. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Edgewood Family Fellowship and again Saturday after noon until the start of the service. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Bessie; four daughters, Cindy Hathaway, Dayle (Doug) Berggren, Becky Marx and Kim McCright; son, Rex (Shelly) McCright; and daughter-in-law, Sandy McCright, all of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Helen of Cape Cod, Mass.; special friend, Kelli Simonsen; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his son, David; parents, Harry and Gladys; and brothers, Don, John and Dale.
Paul Rex McCright was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Harry and Gladys Babcock McCright. Paul graduated from West High School, Waterloo. He was a devoted husband who married the love of his life on June 6, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. They remained each others' best friend and lover for over 61 years. Paul worked as a lather/carpenter in construction with Local 308 for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. He had been a member of Edgewood Family Fellowship for over 50 years.
Paul was a kind, fun-loving father and friend. He was a hard worker and wonderful provider for his family. After his retirement much of his free time was devoted to his church. He enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, cribbage and spending time with his family.
He leaves behind many friends and was especially close to his extended family. He will be deeply and forever loved and missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or Edgewood Family Fellowship.
